Samaria and the Samaritans
Samaria is the name given for the piece of land bounded by the Jordan river on the east,by the Plain of Sharon to the west by the Plain of Esdraelon to the north and by Antipatris (Ras el Ain) to the south. The Samaritans accept only the Toran, they number about 400. The majority live in Nablus and a few in Holon near Tel Aviv. When The Jews returned from the exile and began rebuilding the Temple, the Samaritans asked to be allowed to help in the rebuilding of the Temple. When they were refused they set up a sanctuary in opposition on Mt. Gerizim near Nablus.
