The Unreached Peoples Prayer Profiles
Afghanistan
Known as "the Crossroads of Central Asia" because of its location in the center of Iran, Pakistan, China and the former USSR, the Republic of Afghanistan is a dry, mountainous land with many fertile valleys. After the fall of the communist regime in 1992, disunity among the mujahidin guerrillas and the interim government brought about a civil war. Beginning as an Islamic holy war or jihad, it has further degenerated into a cruel contest for power, ethnic superiority and religious supremacy.
Afghanistan is one of the least reached lands in the world, with 48,000 mosques but not a single church building, nor a viable fellowship of believers in any but a few of the indigenous peoples of the country.
