Benazir Bhutto's government was once again dismissed on corruption charges in November 1996, and elections were held in February 1997. Pakistan Muslim League won with an overwhelming majority and Mian Nawaz Sharif was re-elected as Prime Minister.

But October 12, 1999, Government of Nawas Sharif was dissmissed by General Musharaf Pervez. Ousted Prime Minister Nawaz was sentenced to life in April, 2000 for terrorism and hijacking and currently(June, 2000)he was on trial for corruption and tax evasion.

Chief Executive Musharaf is most poweful in Pakistan now. After his coup, he made a special law over the constitution and is trying to solve a lot of problems of Pakistan. The Supreme Court justified his coup as it presented reconstruction period three years to him. He promised that he will recover democracy and reconstruct the country within this period.
