Armenia

 [Flag] The Republic of Armenia is a mostly mountainous country (including Mount Ararat), and has been a victim of its location as a strategic buffer between the Byzantine/Turkish, Russian/USSR and Persian empires. Centuries of bitter conflict, oppression and massacres have left a legacy of hatred and mistrust of these nations.

Armenia claims to be the world's first christian state (AD301). Following the collapse of Soviet communism, all churches, especially Evangelicals have grown in numbers, but there is an intimate relationship between the Armenian Apostolic Church and the nation's culture and politics.

Despite the massive damage, the 1988 earthquake brought about a powerful revival with a sense of national repentance before the Lord, and renewed interest in the scriptures.
