Even though officially there is religious freedom, today, rising nationalism linked with Islamic revival is making many Azerbaijanis less receptive to the Gospel.

The Christian population is almost entirely Russian and Armenian; many of whom have now fled the country. Among the unreached ethnic minorities, only the Udi of the many Lezgin peoples are christian; all other groups remain Muslim.
