Chile's democratic government is cautiously seeking to rectify the damage to health and education, and heal the deep divisions in society brought about by earlier regimes. Just grievances and fears of those involved must be faced. Military dictatorships have divided the church - both Catholic and Protestant. Missionary movement has not developed as much as it could, because of geographical isolation, political upheaval and lack of exposure.
