In 712 AD, when trade of the Arabs in the Indian ocean was jeopardized by sea pirates, Muhammad bin Qasim, led a naval expedition to subdue the ruler of Sind, Raja Dahir. Muhammad bin Qasim, in conformity with Muslim practice, guaranteed the security and freedom of life, property and worship to the conquered people.
